Lewis Treston. 2021.

Hello 🙋🏼‍♂️

Thank you for visiting my website.

My name is Lewis Treston. I’m a multi-award-winning playwright and researcher based in Southeast Queensland. My practice interrogates themes of identity, social performance, and cultural legacy through a comic lens, often drawing on camp, satire, and stylised [sur]realism. I’m interested in how theatre can disrupt conventionality—good and bad taste, received traditions—while giving queer subjects space to imagine other futures: messier, stranger, more honest than the ones they’ve been offered.

Recent productions include IRL (La Boite), Hot Tub (Belvoir 25A), Follow Me Home (ATYP), Hubris & Humiliation (Sydney Theatre Company), and Pride and Prejudice co-written with Wendy Mocke (Queensland Theatre). My work has been described as “riotously funny” (TimeOut), “deliciously camp” (The Queer Review), and “like Oscar Wilde in a hyperpop blender” (ArtsHub).

Between 2022 and 2025, my work has generated over $2.2 million at the Australian box office and reached more than 28,000 paid ticket buyers.

Alongside my creative practice, I am currently completing a PhD on queer futurity and the family in contemporary drama.

I teach undergraduate courses in theatre studies, performance, and playwriting at The University of Queensland, and have mentored emerging writers through the Australian Theatre for Young People's Fresh Ink Program, the National Studio, and NIDA Open.
